March 20, 2012: With the third annual NORRA Mexican 1000 ramping up in publicity, record entries and excitement, Intersect Beverage Company has announced a renewed partnership with event organizers that will see its Azuñia brand of premium tequila enjoy official status as part of the unique motorsports rally.

Scheduled for April 28 – May 2, the 2012 Mexican 1000 will cover over 1,200 off and on-road miles beginning in Mexicali, Baja, Mexico and finishing four days later in the world-class beach resort of San Jose Del Cabo. Known as the “Happiest Race on Earth” the vintage-flavored Mexican 1000 rally is a unique, once-a-year, four-day competitive event that includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, rally cars, trucks, Jeeps and a number of modern desert racecars and prerunners.

Event participants and teams will enjoy Azuñia margaritas and hospitality at several stops throughout the rally, including the “Welcome Fiesta and Driver’s Meeting,” a sunset “Victory Party” and several overnight stops down the Baja peninsula. This is the second year of a two-year agreement between NORRA and Intersect Beverage, the parent company of the Azuñia brand.

“Azuñia was first introduced to the NORRA Mexican 1000 in 2010 and we couldn’t resist the temptation to get involved last year as the official tequila,” said Intersect Beverage CEO Jim Riley. “The rally represents everything that is great about off-road racing: adventure, challenging terrain, celebration, excitement, and good friends. In other words, it’s a perfect fit for Azuñia – a top-level motorsports event that’s also uniquely Mexican too.”

“If I was able to race one race in Mexico, it would be the Mexican 1000 hands-down,” he added. “I never had a better time.”

In addition to supporting the rally, Azuñia will support a two-car effort of Riley and racing partner Rick Johnson, each driving a perfectly restored vintage off-road racer.

“At its core, the Mexican 1000, while a competitive rally, is more about our participants having a great, world-class time within the beautiful Baja peninsula,” said NORRA President Mike Pearlman. “We welcome our friends at Azuñia back for 2012 and well into the future.”
