NORRA Finalizes Plans For Largest Celebration in Off-Road Racing at 2015 General Tire Mexican 1000
-- Grand Mayan Resort to Host "South Point Seaside Driver's Awards" --

(Agua Dulce, Calif.): Since 2012, the National Off-Road Racing Association (NORRA) and Michael Gaughan’s South Point Hotel Casino have co-hosted the largest and most elaborate post-race awards ceremony in the sport’s history. Last May, more than 1,200 drivers, crew members, family, friends and VIP supporters gathered on the soft white sands in San Jose Del Cabo immediately following the conclusion of the General Tire Mexican 1000. For 2015, that NORRA tradition looks to expand and grow.

Overcoming issues finding a venue large enough to host such a gathering after Category 4 Hurricane Odile slammed the area last September, NORRA officials today announced an agreement with San Jose Del Cabo’s Grand Mayan Resort, the same location that guests enjoyed at the 2014 “South Point Seaside Driver's Awards” celebration.

Being held Wednesday evening, April 29 on the beachfront of the Grand Mayan Resort, the huge party will include a red carpet entrance, food stations, a full bar including Azunia Tequila margaritas, live music and special awards -- all capped of with huge fireworks show.

On April 29th the night skies over the quiet Mexican town of San Jose Del Cabo will come alive thanks to a giant beachside fireworks show celebrating the conclusion of NORRA's Mexican 1000.

"NORRA is proud of starting this tradition for the Mexican 1000 rally, and its something our racers and their guests view as a highlight of their time with us in Baja," explained NORRA President Mike Pearlman. "Unfortunately, much of the news coverage on last year’s hurricane focused on the resort area of Cabo San Lucas, but San Jose del Cabo suffered much worse destruction. We thank our friends at the Grand Mayan for working so hard to make this a reality, and we are glad to be a part of their recovery process.”

The South Point Seaside Driver’s Awards is just one of several hospitality locations NORRA and its family of corporate partners are planning for the 2015 Mexican 1000 – affectionately known as “The Happiest Race on Earth.

Scheduled run from April 25 – 29th and go from Ensenada to land’s end in San Jose Del Cabo, participants and their crews can also look forward to the “Walker Evans Racing Driver’s Meeting” and the “American Racing Wheel Baja Social Club” at the seaside finish line in Loreto, located on the beautiful Sea of Cortez. The organizing body is also finalizing additional finish line celebrations in El Rosario for the motorcycle racer and in Bahia De Los Angeles (Bay of Los Angeles) for the various four-wheel categories.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, four-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, rally cars, a limited group of modern desert racecars and classes for prerunner trucks and buggies.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970s.

The General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 is supported by General Tire, American Racing Wheel, South Point Hotel Casino, Walker Evans Racing, Azunia Tequila, KC HiLites, Bilstein Shock Absorbers and Mastercraft/Impact Safety.
