Featuring MARK STAHL

Agua Dulce, CALIF. – This week’s episode of 1000 Miles Of Stories features Mark Stahl. Mark started racing motorcycles off road but after breaking his collarbone when the bike he was racing seized up, he made the switch to 4 wheels. Mark won one of the toughest B1K races ever run in 1978. It was 2 laps in the driving rain, and Mark drove the entire way by himself; earning him Ironman status. His buggy was sponsored by Western Auto tires. Mark won the overall, beating Frank Vessels, and Parnelli Jones who were racing the iconic BFG Blazer. Western Auto executives, who were at the finish line, told Mark he would never have to buy tires again.

Mark won several Baja 1000 races and then moved to the NASCAR Winston Cup series. In 2011, he was invited to race the first stage of the NORRA Mexican 1000 in his old car that had been restored by Jeff Furrier, and Rory Ward. Mark had so much fun that he bought one of Ivan Stewart’s old race trucks and has now won the Mexican 1000, 5 times in a row. Mark has tons of great stories, old, and new, about racing in Baja; you won’t want to miss this episode on the NORRA Mexican 1000 facebook page this Thursday, July 30th at 5pm pacific time.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
