NORRA's 1000 Miles of Stories - Featuring CURT LEDUC
Interview by MARK STAHL

Agua Dulce, CALIF. – NORRA’s 1000 Miles Of Stories is a popular series of webcasts on the NORRA Facebook page. You can find previous episodes there: www.facebook.com/NorraFanPage. You know things are going to get interesting when NORRA Multi-time champion Mark Stahl is asking the questions. This week’s episode features the man who regularly leads NORRA’s SAAVY Safari class; Curt LeDuc. Mark Stahl ran the Safari class with Curt at the NORRA 500 in 2019. Curt has impressive accomplishments in the world of off road racing. He has competed at the highest level of short course, and off road racing for decades. He won desert class 8 championships 5 years in a row, and has won multiple championships in several short course racing series. Curt has 2 SODA Governor’s Cups, and a much coveted Borg Warner Cup as well. He has competed at the birth place of short course racing; Crandon, Wisconsin, at Pike’s Peak, the Dakar Rally, and of course all over the Baja Peninsula for many years. Curt’s contributions to the sport were recognized in 2015 when he was inducted into the Off Road Motorsports Hall Of Fame.

Through all his success Curt always did it with his own hands. He designed and built all his vehicles along the way. He is a blue collar racer that earned a reputation for being able to fix anything with limited resources; skills that got him hired by icon Walker Evans early in Curt’s career. Not only is Curt the guy you want with you in Baja for his mechanical aptitude, but he’s one of the warmest, and most entertaining people you will ever meet. He also knows nearly every rock and cactus in Baja. In addition to his racing legacy, Curt has 2 sons who are also championship winning drivers. Older son Todd is a professional Monster Truck racer, and son Kyle is currently the man to beat in Pro-4 short course racing. His Daughter Valerie has also tried her hand at short course racing. The LeDuc family legacy will be growing for years to come.

If you have ever wanted to explore Baja during a sanctioned event with a fun group people, the SAVVY Safari Class is for you. The Baja Peninsula is unmatched in its beauty, diverse landscapes, and delicious food and beverages. It has become a foodie paradise, and the local wineries around Ensenada are internationally acclaimed. Participating in the NORRA Safari Class with Curt will turn you into a Baja traveler in no time, and you’ll have a ton of fun doing it. The Savvy Safari Class is not a speed contest, it’s a fun paced adventure. Each vehicle will be equipped with a tracking device, and NORRA will have Curt in the lead, and a sweep vehicle bringing up the rear so that everyone knows where to go, and gets to the finish every day safely. If you have ever wanted to travel the Baja Peninsula, but were unsure how to find your way, the safari class is the best way to become a seasoned traveler; safely, and with insider knowledge that only people like Curt LeDuc possess.

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
