Early Registration for the 2021 NORRA 500 Rally Shows Intriguing Entrants

Agua Dulce, CALIF. – The 2021 NORRA 500 got underway on July 1st when early registration opened on the NORRA website. The event doesn’t begin until October 7th through the 10th, but anxious racers could not wait to get entered, and start the process that leads up to race day. The NORRA 500 was launched in 2019, and was a big success, only to be cancelled in 2020 due to covid. Now that we are able to race in Baja again, the event can have another chance to develop into the Good Vibes, Good Times event that NORRA envisioned.

While the Yokohama Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels takes strategy, and a measured pace to complete all 5 days in the dirt, the NORRA 500 is two days of racing, around 250 miles each day. The courses start, and finish in Ensenada each day. Bikes and cars race on separate courses as always. It requires much less when it comes to logistics, and requires a much different strategy. The NORRA 500 is less about endurance, and more about fun, if that’s even possible. Crews get a chance to worry less about keeping a tight schedule, and focus more on being in Baja, and enjoying the competition; one thing that remains the same.

NORRA recommends you load only one day at a time to your GPS device.

While many competitors would race anything, anywhere, the courses being planned for the NORRA 500 are very special. They travel through areas of Baja that are absolutely magical. Running along the Pacific Coast, with its crashing waves, and spectacular vistas, is always extraordinary, but being able to navigate through the infamous pine forest is a special privilege granted to very few. The incredible scenery all around elevates your already heightened senses to a whole other level. The pine forest is as challenging as it is beautiful; an incredible experience all around, but that’s not all. The routes contain a very diverse taste of just about every type of terrain Baja has to offer, with all the amenities in town you could want. It makes it the perfect race to bring more of your friends or the entire family.

For many NORRA competitors, it’s all about family. The family they create during competition, and their actual relatives. Just look at all the families that are racing together. Richard, and Christie Cushman are racing against Paul Lorenz, and Paul Roger Lorenz; both in the Meyers Manx class. John Yeiser, and Jack Yeiser are taking on a stacked field of Heavy Metal trucks in their 2010 Chevrolet 1500. In the unlimited buggy class Mike Diorio, and Joe Diorio are racing their gorgeous 1998 Jimco Class 1; the first V8 class 1 car Jimco ever built (originally raced by Tom Ebberts). We even have a couple family members racing against each other. Scott Steinberger, of PCI Race Radio fame, is competing in a Can Am turbo against Son Ryder also in a PCI Can Am turbo. I doubt either one will give an inch to the other on the race course. Off the course is entirely different. All competitors display incredible camaraderie, and help each other in the pits when needed. The goal is to have fun, and everyone pitches in on that.

The fun, the challenge, the camaraderie, the support, the food, and drink, and the culture in Baja make NORRA unlike any other event, and there is a place for everyone. The NORRA 500 is the perfect chance to get that first Baja race under your belt. If you don’t have a race vehicle, enter the safari class for street legal vehicles. You will be on a guided tour that takes in key points of interest, watches the racers compete, and allows you to party with both Baja legends, and average Joes living out their dreams. The safari is led by Off Road Motorsports Hall of Fame Member Curt LeDuc who knows Baja like the back of his hand. If you have always wanted to bring your family, and friends to see what NORRA is all about, or want to get your feet wet racing in Baja, this is the event for you! ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, RIGID, STEEL-IT, Volcon, Slime, Optima Batteries, K&N, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, PCI Race Radios, Schampa, Nite Rider Offroad, Multitool USA, Stage V Media, B3KREATIV, Mag7 Pits, The Fab School, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, Horsepower Ranch, Baja Bush Pilots, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), and many more.
