April 21, 2018 (Ensenada, BC): Competitors got their first taste of the 2018 Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 presented by Method Race Wheels at the Bilstein tech inspection on Friday in front of the Riviera Convention Center in Ensenada. Before you can take part in “The Happiest Race On Earth” you must first pass inspection. Cars, trucks, and UTV’s have to conform to class rules and have all required safety equipment properly installed before they are given the OK to compete in the rally. Trained inspectors also check the overall condition of each vehicle to make sure it’s capable of a full week of Baja terrain.

Participants were also obliged to take part in the AlerTraX Tracker Mandatory Training session. The AlerTraX system supplies a whole host of features that increase safety for users. Automatic impact and rollover detection, stopped vehicle alerts, and an emergency satellite message sent to Race Management are just some of the unique features. For the drivers/riders RaceTraX displays Pass Request Notification, Virtual Check Point Indicators, Speed Zone Indicators with Posted and Actual Speed Comparison, and is also capable of automatic Race-to-Chase position updates sent every 8 minutes with race vehicle’s race-mile and speed, all through the Iridium satellite network. NORRA wants to make sure everyone has the best time possible, and the AlerTraX system helps to keep everyone safe and on course.

After the Mexican 1000 Media Appreciation Press Conference, the first of many celebrations got underway in the Riviera Convention Center’s Casino Ballroom. Food, live music, and plenty of Cerveceria Transpeninsular’s Baja Blond Ale, brewed specifically to quench your thirst after a day experiencing the beauty and challenge of Baja, was enjoyed at the party. The Baja Blond is in special Yokohama NORRA Mexican 1000 commemorative cans that are sure to become collectibles. Everyone could have as much fun as they liked because Saturday will be another full day of relaxing in Ensenada during day 2 of tech inspection for the remaining cars and the bikes. The first stage of the rally takes place on Sunday. If you can’t make it down to Ensenada and take part in the fun, you can get all the latest news and information about the NORRA Mexican 1000 at: norra.com

By 1989 he set his off-road racing days aside to establish Pulltarps Manufacturing in 1992, which built operator-friendly mechanical tarp systems for large construction trucks and trailers. Thanks to years of engineering and manufacturing experience, Lynn was able grow Pulltarps to a successful enterprise until he sold the company in early 2017. Wanting to return to the fun of off-road racing, he and a team of former factory craftsman have started to build new Chenowth racing chassis, as well as laying the foundation of a seaside Chenowth Legacy Lodge and Museum south of San Felipe, Baja, Mexico (pictured below).

ABOUT NORRA

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, four-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern desert Rally Raid cars, pre-runner trucks, buggies and motorcycles.

Pearlman's late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970's.

The 2018 NORRA Mexican 1000 is supported by Yokohama, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel Casino, Walker Evans Racing, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, Steel-It, Multitool USA, RIGID, VP Racing Fuels, Timberline, Ensenada Proturismo, Mastercraft/Impact Safety, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, Roganto, Biltwell Inc., Schampa, Racing TraX.com, Satellite Phone Store.com, P.C.I.
